NWF achieves ISO 50001

International standard recognises energy efficiency

Natures Way Foods (NWF) is proud to have been awarded the ISO 50001 international standard.

The certification, which recognises best practices in energy management, complements NWF’s ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management. NWF was one of the first UK food producers to achieve this standard in 2001.

We are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and energy consumption. This year, we wanted to achieve ISO 50001 so we could measure and monitor our energy usage to an international standard."

Richard Parr Chief Operating Officer, NWF

Over the course of the last six years, NWF has improved its water efficiency by 40% and energy efficiency by 30%. Energy reductions across the business have included upgrading fridge plants for energy efficient ammonia plants and the installation of energy efficient air compressors and air conditioning unitss in the site offices.

NWF is investing over £130K in reducing our carbon footprint this year, with a further £250K investment earmarked for next year. Future improvements will include the installation of a new LED lighting system, which is scheduled to be fitted in the Runcton site by the end of this year, and across all other sites next year providing a further 10% reduction.

The ISO 50001 standard will help us to invest in the right areas of the business over the next several years, with the aim of achieving the 2020 climate change target by 2016.”
